How do I become a better cristian and follow God and Jesus the way I should?

So... I have always been rasied Catholic and so was my husband but we did not get married in the church so we are now non practicing catholics. We have decided to get say our vows in the church so we can get our son baptised. Here is my question... I know that going to Church on Sunday doesn't mean your living right. I do pray Every day about different things... THanking God and just asking for his strenglth to get me through some things... But is this enough... i want to be a follower of God but was never raised to do so and well, my husband is a full catholic-- go to church on sunday and be done with it-- and that scares me that he is not living in the right ways. I was not raised to praise God and Jesus, just go to church on Sunday and Confession and being done with it so i don't know how to do things right. and I want ot raise my son to follow jesus and God... I want him to understand better than me!! But, what do I do... Do i read the bible to learn? Is praying and thinking of God and Jesus enough? I have messed up so much in my life, am I too far gone? I had pre marital , became preg before marriage, have gotten a tattoo, smoke, envied, ate when not hungry... Broken many of the deadly sins... Am I too far gone? can people just give some advice to this? Thanks So Much
