Can I get a week's train p from Birmingham, UK?

I want to stay in Birmingham, England for a week in July. However, I want to travel to London and other cities away from Bham. I was wondering if I could get ONE train p that can be used anytime and to anywhere during my week stay. Also, I'm still confused about the difference between a train and tram. Thanks!
