1980's - ish song?

I'm trying to figure out this random song. I used to here it on the pop radio stations when I was a kid in the '80s. I can here the melody in my head, but only remember one word. It's a guy singing, not a high pitch voice, possibly deep. He says an extended "you" (read "yoooooouuu") then a piano (or maybe a keyboard) comes in for the hook/chorus/bridge "bum bum bah bum" (hard to immitate chords/melodies through words). It's not a slow song, but not a party song either. It's kind of chill, spacey, vibe-y, but has a little bit of pace to it... I know this is very little to go on, but maybe this rings some bell in your mind and you can help me. Thanks, I've been trying to figure this it for years!
